Coonabarabran Training and Grading
On Sunday 27 February, members of the NSW group of the Australian Shorinjiryu Karatedo Association got together in Coonabarabran for a training session and grading.

It was a pleasure for me to attend this session, and to meet with and train with a great group of people from Coona.
We covered off Bojutsu “Junbi Undo” (preparatory exercises), and moved into 2 of the randori from Gorin no Bo series.
After lunch, a grading was held, where Renshi Max Estens, Tashi Graeme Bowden and I put the candidates through a session that covered off on all material for the grade being attempted, and all lower grades.
After deliberation, the following promotions were announced
-
Sam Bowden - 8th Kyu Yellow Belt
-
James Bowden - 5th Kyu Orange Belt with Green tips
-
Johannes Rickert - 3rd Kyu Green Belt with Brown Tips
-
Jacob McKernan - 2nd Kyu Brown Belt
-
Dean McKernan - 2nd Kyu Brown Belt
Congratulations to all on their successful promotions.

Seminar with Kyoshi Myron Lubitsch in Brisbane
On 28 November 2004, members of Australian Shorinjiryu Karatedo were honoured to participate in a seminar conducted by Kyoshi Myron Lubitsch, 8th Dan, of Shorinjiryu Kenryukan in New York. Held in Brisbane’s north, members from all dojo were in attendance.
Kyoshi Myron was ably assisted by 2 of his senior instructors from the Kenryukan - Shihan Vincent Capers Jr, 6th Dan, and Sensei Christian Hernandez, 1st Dan.
After a light warm up, Sensei Christian demonstrated the four versions of Naihanchin taught at the Kenryukan, whilst Shihan Vincent demonstrated Sanchin (aka Niseisan). Following this, we then got into learning Naihanchin Yon - a circular and very Chinese looking version of Naihanchin.
Following a break, attention shifted to the Sankakutobi kumite, with Shihan Vincent and Sensei Christian demonstrating the three Sankakutobi Shodan kumite, and the three Sankakutobi Nidan. We then got stuck into learning Sankakutobi Shodan no Ichi and Sankakutobi Shodan no San.
This concluded the seminar component of the day, and after a break a kyu and senior dan grading was held.
This was a fantastic seminar, and my thanks to Kyoshi Myron, Shihan Vincent and Sensei Christian for their teaching, only 2 hours after getting off the plane from New York, and to Renshi Jim and Sensei Lesley for organising the day.
