Kettlebells used for building up Aussie actor for upcoming movie

According to The Age, for the upcoming movie, 300, Australian actor David Wenham turned to kettlebells to get his physique ready.

Snyder hired Mark Twight, a former mountain climbing world record holder who trains special operations military personnel and ultimate cage fighters, to build the actors’ bodies into Spartans.

Twight designed an eight-week program of tortuous exercises involving old fashioned training tools such as medicine balls and kettlebells. The program emphasised athleticism by combining compound movements.

I believe kettlebells are a wonderful tool for developing your physique and conditioning, and this is being evidenced by their increasing use by actors to get in shape, quickly, for movie performances.  Sly Stallone apparently uses kettlebells in his own training in daily life, and he used them several times in the recent movie Rocky Balboa.

Happy Karate Day

Following a declaration in 2005 by the Prefectural Assembley of Okinawa (Japan), today - 25th October - is Karate Day. This is in commemoration of the sitting of the 1936 Meeting of the Masters that was held in Okinawa, and at which much of the shape of modern karate was formed.

So happy karate day, on this the 70th Anniversary of the meeting.

Also, Happy Birthday to my father. Its remarkable to me to consider that he celebrated his 2nd birthday on the same day as the 1936 Meeting of the Masters.

Treading Lightly Launches on TPN

Folks, we all know we’re screwing this planet up.  Greenhouse gases, fossil fuel exploitation, deforestation, whaling and depletion of the ocean’s stocks are only some of the issues that we need to pay serious attention to.

One of my dive buddies, Kevin Withnall, along with his good mate Jason, are launching a new podcast on The Podcast Network called Treading Lightly.  These 2 guys take a serious but humerous look at the ways that we can all do better to look after our environment.

I highly recommend that everyone subscribe to Treading Lightly, and put some thought into your actions.
